Today, May 22, is biodiversity day and at Wipala we are very connected to our Pachamama. This day serves to raise awareness and understanding about the importance of biodiversity and its conservation.

1. Biodiversity and the danger it faces.

Biodiversity is the variety of living beings that inhabit our planet, from microorganisms to giant mammals. This diversity is essential for the survival of life on Earth, since each species has a unique role in the ecosystem, but most of these are in danger of extinction.

The main factor of extinction danger is human action, deforestation, pollution and climate change are some of the most important threats facing the ecosystem.

2. Wipi is part of the tribe

Who is Wipi, you may ask? Wipi is our spectacled bear that represents Wipala’s kids line.

The spectacled bear or Andean bear is a fascinating and endangered animal, so it is important to know more about it and how we can help preserve its habitat.

-To protect this species, it is important to take measures to conserve its natural habitat and stop poaching. Captive breeding programs have also been implemented to increase the population and reintroduce spectacled bears to the wild.

– They are solitary and territorial animals. Despite their size, they are excellent climbers and can easily climb trees for food and shelter.

-Their diet consists mainly of plants, such as fruits, leaves, stems and roots. They may also consume small animals, such as insects and rodents. The spectacled bear is a unique and fascinating species that deserves our attention and protection. As a tribe, we have a responsibility to protect all endangered species and ensure a sustainable future for our planet.
